This is the first of several points on which I am confused. Oladije, thanks for all your help, and if I can get answers for today's confusions from another thread here, the Wiki, the docs, a FAQ list, or a tutorial elsewhere on the Web, please just point me to it! So, confusion #1 for today - directory structure: diskw (or W:\, as far as Apache is concerned) contains the favicon.ico, and these folders: - \www ---Here are some HTML files, including the default index.htm - titled "Apache Test" (which says, "Here has to be your server.") ---I have added my own *.htm files here, along with some of their image files - .gif, .jpeg --- and there is an .htaccess file - but…

I have "successfully" installed Uniform Server on my desktop PC, and I can access the server from another node of my home LAN. But to change anything on my server, I have to get out of my chair and leave my Laptop, to edit files, permissions, etc., on the server PC  Is it possible to administer the server via Telnet? What is the address? (In my case, the server is on internal address: 192.168.2.10, while my Laptop is on 192.168.2.8, within my NAT segment). - Jeff

  3. I got U-Server installed last night and everything seems to work except phpMyAdmin, which I will worry about at another time. Righ now I need to know the best secure way to access the server from a remote location. Thanks in advance!

  5. Started by temporary,

I'm using uniserver on a PC that already has a webserver and mysql server installed. So in order for me to use uniserver, I had to reconfigure the ports. I browsed through all the files and succeeded in changing the apache port to 800 and mysql port to 33060. I also updated the mysql default port in the PHP config file to connect to port 33060. But it seems like it still doesn't work. Looking at the php config file again, it says Does that mean the default port is hardcoded into php.exe? I downgraded the php module to version 4. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I'm a little stumped with this, so I figured that I would ask my question here to see if anyone could tell me how to do this... I've also accidentally placed this in the apache part of the forum too, then realized that this question should be here. My question is: After installing the Uniform Server, how do you set it up so that it runs from the start up of the computer. I've tried putting the start.bat files for Apache & MySQL in the startup folder of my machine, but have had no luck there. I've also played around with installing Uniform Server using the services route and I'm not having much luck that route either. The reason I'm asking is because I'm…

Hi, I've had success initiating the UniformServer on my XP Pro machine, and thought I'd set it up on an old laptop that's sitting on the network as a test server. I've installed both US v3.2a and v3.1 I found in a post that in order to get 3.2a running on a Win98 or earlier version that it's important to change one of the command lines "IF NOT ERROR LEVEL "X" goto started. The "X" was changed from 1 to 0, and the server started. While typing in http://localhost, I get "the connection was refused..." error. Read more through the forums and thought perhaps the US v3.2a would not work on the old Win95 machine, so installed the US v3.1. When running v3.1, I get an err…

Hi! After running and enjoying Uniform Server 3.1 for a long time on a daily base to host a private weblog (thank you by the way for this excellent server!) I just thought I really should upgrade to 3.2a. But now neither 3.2 nor 3.2a start. After running start.bat the W:// drive seems to be created for one second (appears in the windows explorer) and apache.exe and uniserv.exe are visible in the taskmanager. But after only one second the processes and the W:// drive disappear again and my browser can not display the webpage called by start.bat after that of course. What changed from 3.1 to 3.2 so that the Uniform Server doesn't want to start? I have Win2k with lates…

I installed UniServer3_2 on Windows XP Pro, and was thrilled with how easy it made starting up a local webserver. Now, I have learned this and that about Apache and webservers and php, and decided I wanted to install Apache, php, and MySQL manually and try it that way. Meaning no disrespect towards Uniserver, I love it and will go back to it if I can get it to do Apache as a Service rather than as an application. So I removed UniServer from my machine and proceeded with the installation of Apache and PHP. I thought I had integrated the parts correctly. Alas, if you look here: http://salvatrucha.ca you will see the problem. Despite reporting that PHP is embedded int…

  17. Started by Curious,

It has been a while since i have been here. Uniform server is awsome. I formatted my computer and installed the new version of Uniform Server. I cannot access it from outside. I do not have a router! How do I set up my computer or uniform server to let me access my computer from another computer. I am running windows XP pro. This worked fine for me before. I am pretty sure I had to do something to my network connection or my internet connection options. If that is the case what settings should I have in there? I know i have the default settings for the firewall. I am a novice when it comes to setting up the server. I can access my computer from home using localho…

I have php-nuke that I am trying to use with the program. After a couple of fixes with the mysql and mysql admin, the site works. With one thing wrong so far. When I try to login, it will not acknowledge my login. Same with the administration. I am sure it has something to do with the cookies not being produced right. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi! I'm having some troubles with some php pages. They have like 3 images, but when I tested them no image was displayed. After a couple of browser's refresh (F5) one image showed. Then I reloaded the page a couple of times and then the page is displayed ok. A friend tried it out and the same thing happened to him, he had to reload the page a couple of times and then the images appeared (in firefox and explorer). I have no idea why this could happen, I don't know if this is a bug or what. Please help!

  21. Started by Jmayhew,

I have installed UniServer3.2a on a WinMe system. Clicking Start.bat generates the following mesage: Error!!! One of the instances of Apache server is started. Use stop.bat Using Norton's Utilities I can monitor the active processes. There is no Apache running on the system. I verified that starting MySQL shows up in the active process window. From your other help messages, I checked that there are no php.ini or libmysql.dll files on system other than in Uniserver folders and emptied all temporary file folders. Finally, I did a search of the registry for Apache and Mysql and found no extraneous listings. The problem still exists.

Hello recently I tried to preinstall a php script in the UNIFORMSERVER and made a new ADMIN PANEL design for the whole setup. Things were working fine until then, suddenly two days before, when I am finally ensuring my changes, donot know what happened, I am unable to use the MODIFIED version (i.e. when I click on START.BAT file, ADMIN PANEL (neither the new design that we made nor the design that is available in UNIFORM SERVER opens) tried to make a copy from the original UNIFORMSERVER's ZIP file and see if things work there (to figure out my customised version's problem), - no use. everywhere I get the same error. NOTE: like to inform you (hoping if it is u…

Hello, well, i got a problem (who not ) and as you already read i try to start the Server with a profile that is not that of the "Adminitrator". Well my profile is in the group of an Administrator, but after executing start.bat only the new Drive will be setup, but the server does not work. Failure Message is: "Access Denied". Without reason.. So, i switched to "Administrator" and started "start.bat" and voilá it runs. But.. well.. i dont wanna be Administrator Is there a Possibility to make it run for another profile in Win2k? I thought if my profile is in Admin-Group too, i could do the same as the Administrator.. I would be very, very happy to get som…

Hi there, I love the development work you are doing here with this web server package, but I have struck a snag with building a local test site which will eventually have to be hosted on a clients web server which runs older versions of Apache/SQL/PHP. My clients web host refuses to upgrade their services and they are locked into a long term contract with them. So they only way I can be sure the CMS site I am building for them on my local PC will be compatible with their web host when I migrate it to to their servers is to use exactly the same versions which they are already running. I need a version of Uniserver which will have versions Apache 1.3.33, MySQL 4.0.24 an…
