Uniform Server - Windows

I have installed Uniform Server in W7. When I start it it generates a small icon in the tray. If I start the servers from there they won't start. I have installed all as administrator. I can however start mysql/apache fully by hand, but that's not the idea ;-) I suggest that it is some security option I need to set in W7 but does anybody know where and how? albert

Hi I've been running uniform server at home for a few years now and love it, so when it came to setting up a wiki at work I thought i'd use it but seem to have trouble accessing the server! At my machine using localhost (or 127.0.0.1) there's no problem but if i try to use my machines network ID or IP I get 403 errors on all my pages - this is both at my machine or from another terminal (valid on the domain though). There's no firewalls between the machines and have tried both XP and 2k boxes. Even tried activating windows firewall and ok'ing apache, mysql etc.. through it but no joy. Thanks in advance!

V. 5.x in some installation (ex. Dokeos) create an absolute path like C:/Users/Username/desktop/UniServer/www that create problems moving the server. The 4.0 version used a virtual disk, so Z:/www/ more portable (the application works in pendrives or locally or if necessary globally). Is it possible to use v. 5.x WITH virtual disk as previous 4.x ? Otherwise installations are less portable. Thanks, Furio

I am running Windows 7 (yeah, it's funny, I know), and Apache does not particularly like to run very well in 7. I can get it to run using a tutorial I found through Google, but I am not particularly impressed with the security. I want to use NetworkActiv Web Server, because it's security and logging is top-notch, and Apache is just so...limited. I have added a full, updated (5.3) install of PHP into "%root%/usr/local/php/". Hey, I've been talking to a couple of people at various data centers who have been talking about the Apache web server alternative nginx. Seems like a very good HTTP server. I wonder if Uniform Server could integrate this? I have not looked into this deeply myself yet, will probably require a bit research. Have you heard about this one? Kalpz

Hi, I recently downloaded the uniform server file. than i pasted it in c:\ i ran start.exe, tray started, everything looks fine. than i run firefox, type localhost, and hit return, and it just doesn't work. what should i do? i had xampp installed before, it was working fine, one day i turned my laptop on, it didn't work. just seconds ago i uninstalled it and got uniform instead. it doesn't work either os: windows vista home premium service pack 1 (language: turkish) computer: acer aspire 8920 thanks!

Hi, Is there any hope to have version 4 of uniserver updated to feature PHP5? I still find serie 4 fitting my needs much better than version 5, hence my request. Thanks for good stuff anyway

I tried to stop all servies using UniServer5.0-Nano But They wont stop I have to shut down my PC entirely.

Hi Guys, it’s been a while!! I was just wondering if anyone has been able to do the following on Uniform Server: (or might be able to help? Hi, I've just upgraded from 4.3 to 5.3. Using 4.3, I was able to launch both apache and mysql on startup by putting a link in the startup directory. I was able to figure this out by using the files in the altrnative_control directory. But is it possble to have apache, mysql and cron start up all at once? I realized that i could start cron just by addint a shortcut to start_cron.bat in the startup directory, but now there are error messages saying that apache and mysql are not enabled in config.inc.php... As I understand, I need lcc-win32 which I installed, but it won't compile it because there are no corresponding "unicontrollerres.h" and "unicontroller.rc" files in the project. Hi, My company is using a version of the uniform server. I am not sure what version. It was installed early last year. Can the uniform server be used by approx 5 people at once? I became in charge of IT a few months ago. The previous IT person implemented the uniform server for our web pages to access the mysql database. When it was installed, it was always running slow. Our office did some rearranging. So I moved the uniform server computer to a different location, and on a different computer. The previous computer was a pentium 4 with approx 1gb ram. Not sure the processor. I moved it to a dual core pentium 4D processor with 2 gb of ram. Again, not …

Can someone help me with the following? I am making a test pack with miniserver and ImpressCMS. It is based at the same server version that is used for Xoops miniserver (21). When you hit server_start a CMD screen appears. It is saying that apache en mysql are starting, etc. After the server has started the CMD screen remains up. It says push a button to proceed. When doing that the screen disappaers. I want that when I push a button the screen does not disappear but that the server is sutting down. So the user does not have to use server_stop. Is there a standard way to upgrade an installation of uniserver? I am specifically interested in updating from 4.3 to 5.3. I don't have very clear documentation on what was changed from default during the previous version installation, but i want to minimize any impacts. I am on xp corp sp3 and am interested in upgrading just to keep patches up to date.

I have installed latest version of uniform server(5.1) OS : WinXP Processor : intel centrino duo Antivirus McAfee I'm trying to make uniform server to be able to send mail using SMTP(gmail) no matter what I do, i can't seems to make uniform server to be able to send email using my Gmail account. weirdly enough using another PC and XamPP server the same setup works perfectly. CD deploy, is not an easy task, I had to patch Uniform Server 5.1 start/stop scripts, which are done in PHP, to support spaces in files and directory names. I was concerned of why it does not support spaces already, is trivial, because as Apache, PHP, MySQL already support spaces in paths. Related topic for reference I have done my tests on Windows Vista, so I would like to submit a patch with my changes and get feedback from Windows 98/XP/ME and 7, may you help me? Blessings!

I'm using Uniform server for portable applications (Dokeos Portable). If somebody using XP copy the server+application in Desktop 5.x cannot work. The directory c:/Documents and settings/User/Desktop contain blanks. It is difficult to explain that only the root directory can be used: in Uniform Server 4.x it was not necessary. Furio

Can anyone help with getting frontpage extensions for uniform server running on windows 2003 server os I know this is part of the server if I do IIS but I need to get it working inside of this uniform server so my clients can use Frontpage - I know all the usual comments about its old hat and lame ect but clients like it so I want to support it any suggestions would be helpful
