Just found this excellent site http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/express/default.mspx Providing a free SQL server thought I would pop it on my memory stick and gives it a whirl. The download size is interesting 36M to 475M depending on choice, no idea what it expands I also need a few extras to run it! UniServer download 7M expands to 36M including database and server runs from a memory stick no problem. So what do I get for my money? Free does not translate to open source, I could not find any information how to run it from a USB memory stick. I am slowly taking the Linux route this freebie along with Vista is pushing me that way. Once snared into the big brother…

  7. Hello, I would like to ask a question about my PIC16F1503 (datasheet of PIC16F1503). When PIC16F1503 is under dormancy, the timer can not operate. However,if I would like to realize the function of waking up regularly , the watch-dog overflow is timed to wake up. Well,I mean that the operation continues from dormancy. Are there any disadvantages? Thanks, Best regard~

After publishing application plugins, I thought it appropriate to add another section to the installation guides. MySQL Security If you are intending to put the application on line, make sure to read any security advice provided with the application and check providers web site. More importantly the general installation guides are extreme security risk if they are put online as is. It's imperative you secure the MySQL server before putting your servers online. Hence please read the above page MySQL Security and restrict privileges to any user that has connection access to your server. All the best Ric

Hope I pushed all the right buttons. The eAcellerator binaries were obtained from http://www.waldbauer.com/vb/showthread.php?t=2148. Many thanks to! I am not sure who provides these (by name) however they have my respect and I wish them a Merry Christmas. All the best Ric

Why 5.0 and 5.1 No where have I mentioned why the two versions! Standard packages are slowly being converted to PHP 5.3.0 however they may have issues. For each application try this: Initially install on 5.0 and test, they should work fine. Directly copy installed folders across to 5.1 Copy the entire folder UniServer\usr\local\mysql\data to 5.1 If they work on 5.1 there are no compatibility issues. All the best Ric

I was asked the other day what’s UniServer got to do with Triggers new broom. I explained it’s an old English comedy. A friend recommend this clip on youtube the end is very pertinent. V5 Alpha8 is doing the rounds or should I say Triggers new broom OK it looked like a beta was ready however because of recent component changes we replaced the handle. Just means more testing until we think it’s fit for a beta candidate. What triggered the above was my summary on this page. The moral is, never assume someone knows what you are talking about! Uniform Server for whatever reason reminded me of a stretched limo thought I would chop it up into three minis! I have just published three mini servers either is portable or may be run as a service. In reality there are six versions as follows (portable and service): Apache 2.2.8 - (compressed 569KB uncompressed 1.77MB) Apache 2.2.2 PHP 5.2.5 (compressed 2.52MB uncompressed 8.12MB) Apache 2.2.2 Perl 5.10 (compressed 1.08MB uncompressed 3.57MB) For each server I have included working demo code and or single page web site and a PHP guest book on the PHP server, I personally find it far easier to hack working code. If you are interested in the above check out UniC…

Well in England it looks like being a wet Easter I suppose you could while your time away with a video game or watch a few DVDs'. There is this alternative! Try the Power example on this page: http://wiki.uniformserver.com/index.php/4....:_Multi-Servers It’s guaranteed not to improve the weather however I do see blood running down walls when you cannot remember the ports you used. All the best Ric PS if its wet I will revisit FileZila FTPd Should it be fine and sunny will be revisiting an extremely nice place by the river, Houghton Mill worth a visit

I trust everyone is aware I am in the process of moving some of the UniCenter articles over to the Wiki. To be honest that’s not true! It’s not a straight move because I am taking the opportunity to re-write and update where appropriate. Stunnel and mod ssl are examples of this process hence they are effectively new. Olajide has provided a separate category on the Wiki to make it easier to find what I have moved over. Check out: http://wiki.uniformserver.com/index.php/Category:UniCenter I am concentrating on Uniform Server 3.5-Applo, 3.3 may get a look in anything that is obsolete or not worth the effort will not be moved over, will die a natural death. It’s g…

I know Microsoft is said to take security seriously! Well this time I happen to agree, a single update KB951748 prevents you downloading any malicious software. If you are using ZoneAlarm the update kills your Internet access stone dead hence preventing malicious software downloads. Is this a professional way to handle security! I do take my hat off to the software team at Check Point within a day had released an update for all their products including ZoneAlarm Basic Firewall. That really is the professional way to conduct business. Check out this page if you need to update: http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/pre...ccessIssue.html All the best Ric
