  1. First of all, thank you for US, it is really, really great. I wanted to set up Vhost outside regular www root. I've set ic.localhost:80 but can not access it: http://ic.localhost/, gives 403 error Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. I already figured out that there is problem with .htaccess file in the 'public' folder with index.php. Well, I already had this running (with another wamp), but here it for some reason doesn't like mod_rewrite. If I set RewriteEngine to Off, I can normally run ...\public\index.php, and it works (of course, there are errors, as rewrite rules are neccessary), then again I set it rules to On, and I have menti…

Hello, I have a number of Joomla sites running on US 3.5. I use virtualhost settings to run the sites as a subdomain. Further, within each site, I have set up the admin folder within each site to run over ssl by editing ssl.conf. I'd like to upgrade and use US 5.6, but I am struggling to achieve the same type of setup. It 's set up to run a separate folder for ssl, which is great if I want entire directories to run over ssl, but I would like to house all sites in the www folder, serve them using vhosts, and force the admin subdirectories within each to run over ssl. Can anyone help me to think about this? Many thanks, Jeff

Hi I used UniServer a while ago whilst building a website and it worked perfectly for what I needed it to do. However for a while I started testing directly on the back end of my site. I have recently been asked to take my laptop to a couple of different places to show examples of sites and make some small changes whilst at these sites. This would be great, except these sites will not allow me to connect directly to the internet. Therefore how I have been doing things cannot be done. I have come back to using UniServer which is exactly what I need. However, in my sites to link between pages within the site i do not include file extensions, such as I use index rather t…

Hi, has anyone tried running Nano_5_1 Start.exe from a junctioned folder? It fails starting UniTray1.exe without any error message. Reproduce by: - download uniserver 5.1 main zip file, unpack into folder v:\test. no perl or addons necessary, just the zip file - create a junction (use sysinternal's junction.exe or other tools) from C:\Nano_5_1\UniServer to v:\test\UniServer - go to to C:\Nano_5_1\UniServer and run Start.exe => UniTray not started - now go to V:\test\UniServer and run Start.exe => UniTray started (OK) Here V:\ is a substituted drive (SUBST.EXE V: J:\APP) but I don't think that matters, I think only the junction matters. platform: uniserver 5.1,…

Why did the Nano developers set magic_quotes_gpc On in php.ini both for development and production versions? Magic quotes feature is deprecated in php 5.3, http://www.php.net/magic_quotes I think it would be better to set it Off in both development and production php.ini files.

Hi I've set up a windows 2003 server. I've set up uniserver 5.0 on it (because I need php 5.2.x). The windows server DOES NOT have internet access. (I want it this way). I can connect and conifure and do what I like from http://localhost/ I get "IT WORKS!" form http://server/ I can't access http://server/apanel or http://server/sugarcrm or anything, just get forbidden. I've read the forums here and set FollowSymLinks in httpd.conf and set +FollowSymLinks in .htaccess I've checked permissions on the folders in windows. So, Everything works on the local machine. It doesn't work from a network machine. Server is on the LAN but does not have internet access (for security …

Here is my problem I am trying to setup some virtual hosting for a couple of development sites. I had to contact my dns host and my host to allow wildcards. They said they would have to change my IP to do this (not sure why) but they changed my IP address and they added new wildcards to the DNS records (site1. and site2. etc.) I had virtual hosts setup and working with my main domains before the move to a new IP. After they moved the IP, nothing worked. I looked at my Apache access log files and I didn't see any activity on port 80, which makes me think that possibly something is wrong in the firewall or in the dns records. Or possibly the new IP address just isn'…

Hi, I was using Nano 5.3 with no issues commenting AddDefaultCharset directive in Apache configuration. Backed up everything and downloaded Nano 5.4 stable with UTF-8 support. First thing was to comment again the AddDefaultCharset directive in Apache config, saved and started Nano 5.4 Loaded a page that is using <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=Windows-1251" /> but still UTF-8 encoding was forced and text on page was messed up. Any thought or ideas ? Regards, P.S. Tried to use AddDefaultCharset WINDOWS-1251 with no luck - UTF-8 was forced also.

Uniserver 5.3 installed in C:\UniServer\ Windows XP Using UniTray, the Apache server will not start. (MySQL does). Using the server status utility (attached pic) the essence is: "Apache Port = 80 In use by another program" I have run netstat and and nothing is using Port 80. I have tried using the normal and service options. No other versions of apache are running A restart of XP and running immediately after the restart makes no difference I have not tried using the "increment port number" utility because: - I don't know how to set it back again later - why should I when port 80 should have been free Help - any ideas?

I have configured vitual hosts to allow access to 4 sites. The domain names of 3 are with one host and the fourth with another. I have set the domain ip to point to my server, and this works for my first 3 sites. However when I added a fourth with the different hosting company on the 26th Jan i just get the indes of my web root directory. To check whether it was the domain host i registered another domain on the host that worked for my first 3 and set the Ip to the server. The result is the same - the index. Can anyone suggest what eles I might do to sort this out. Vitual host config The last 2 sites are the problem. ##########VIRTUAL HOST SETUP########## # WWW.E-BOOK…

Hi, Mona_5_1 apache consistently hangs here on some pages. Typically it doesn't hang when the page is first displayed, but if I reload the page one or a few times, then it hangs. Other times it hangs if the page is POSTing a request. The steps to make it hang aren't 100% deterministic, but repeating page reloads eventually leads to hanging. I replaced the entire php folder with the Mona_5_0 php folder (php 5.2.10) and there is no hanging whatsoever. Platform: Windows XP Pro SP3. Could the Mona_5_1 php build be defective? I'm going to further check my page php code for possible incompatibilities with php 5.3.0 - in the meantime if someone is experiencing similar proble…

Hi, this is meant to be constructive criticism. I upgraded from UniServer 4.3 to 5.1 expecting an improved out-of-the-box experience, but it wasn't, for a number of reasons. TIP for first-time users: unpack the distribution into C:\Nano_5_1 and you'll save yourself a lot of trouble. Bottom line, I don't think that Nano_5_1 can run from any folder - as the readme.txt file boasts. It must be unpacked into C:\Nano_5_1 otherwise apache won't start at all. Choosing any other folder will not work because the default httpd.conf configuration file which requires C:\Nano_5_1 as the installation folder. The documentation should clearly spell out this limitation, because it isn'…

Hi! After the server is idle for about 20-30 minutes it takes it to load a simple image about 20-30 seconds, after that its like it wakes up and starts doing it at normal speed, really fast. This is really a problem, since it looks like the server doesn't work, if somone comes on it. And it's only slow for the first person that comes, so its not reverse DNS lookup. And its even if link a simple image. Any help appreciated!

Hi my name is Tom, I'm a big fane of the Uniform Server. Great work! I hope you don't mind I'm just gonna copy what I wrote on the HP forums because I also think it might be the hardware problem but then again maybe not really strange problem. ----------------------------------------- The server is connected to a 100/100 FTTH Mbit line. On LAN the speed is normal. Everything outside the local network is extremely slow. The first thing we noticed was that the network card was working weird; when set to 100/100 it transfers data with 90% loss over the internet, about 10-15 Mbit (not MB) speed up/down. At 10/10 it's about 1-1.5 up/down. When set to Gbit or Auto the d…

hello people, I've got a problem with my Apache it will not start even though I've turned off my firewall and anti-virus. I've just move it from another machine due to a mobo failure, I've move it around from machine to machine many time's before and never had a problem. The thing is that when I turn apache on I can see it activate in my task manager then go straight off, I also can not access 127.0.0.1 from my browser. I don't know if anyone could help but even if someone could point me in the right direction I will be greatful Thanks pappy

  23. I can access my sites from the Virtual Host page (localhost?) but not from over the regular Internet. Using the static IP Address I can bring up the Uniform Server default page but not the apanel or any of my sites: Trying the IP Address/apanel shows "The website declined to show this webpage" Trying the sites shows "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" The httpd.conf, .htaccess and Windows.../hosts all look like they should. The logs don't seem to shed any light on the subject. There is no active firewall on the Router. Road Runner (cable Internet) says there is not an issue with the forwarding of port 80. One thing, though, is that I c…

  25. VHost includes In general, any option can be overwritten at any place. That includes .htaccess files. But: The httpd.conf options usually apply generally unless they are marked for use with a special folder or location. The .htaccess files are loaded on demand (on folder access) and apply only to the containing one and the subfolders (if defined), while overwriting the apache configuration options. Be careful: htaccess options work on a "first found, first serves" basis. With several ReadmeName-s in a htaccess, only the first will be applied. Same for AddDescription. (Applies to same keys, in htaccess) There is difference concerning the apache config. For example: Li…
