  1. The error message: (Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)) Seems to me is only part of the full error message displayed! Did it point to a file or was there an error number. To be denied access means the MySQL server is running the default user is “root” and access was attempted by “root” (as seen in the error message) hence looks OK. This indicates the password is incorrect, open the file: *\Uniform Server\udrive\home\admin\www\mysql_password and check the password is “root” (without the quotes). If the password is correct, post the full error message. All the best Ric

    Links problem

I think what may be required is an entry in your hosts file, Open the file hosts located in folder: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc Add a line similar to this 127.0.0.1 www.mydomain.ro All the best Ric

    Links problem

Your Vhost looks OK if I type this into a browser: http://mydomain.ro I will see your index page (served from folder www/myfolder) However if I type this into my browser: http://www.mydomain.ro There is no matching Vhost (ServerName) for www.mydomain.ro Hence it cannot be found and Apache will server pages from the first site listed in the Vhost section. However that is not consistent with the error message! Take a look at this page http://center.uniformserver.com/u35_mod_ss...nfig_httpd.html At the bottom of this page you are interested in the new column it gives the structure how Vhost are layed out the :80 are not required for your implementation. You can have more that one Vhost pointing to the same root folder for example: ServerName mydomain.ro DocumentRoot /www/myfolder ServerName www.mydomain.ro DocumentRoot /www/myfolder Not sure if that helps All the best Ric
  4. I have checked the website and see no reason why it should not run on UniServer. I could not find any information for installation however there is a detailed read me file that should provide these details (well that’s what the site says!). In general most installations have an install.php file that you run. If this is the case start your servers and type the following into your browser: http://localhost/install.php A form will be displayed with a number of boxes requiring specific information for the installation. For example: Server name: localhost When it comes to the database Host: localhost Username: root Password: root Database: (use whatever they recommend) *see note 1 You will have an admin section Username: (choose whatever you like) Password: (choose whatever you like) Note 1: UniServer does not prevent the software creating a database however if you need to create this manually use the admin panel: Type into your browser http://localhost/apanel/ Click on phpMyAdmin (left menu first entry under tools) When phpMyAmin is displayed type into create new database box the name of the database you want to use and click the create button. Run the install.php file again. If you think the database has been created use the drop down menu (phpMyAdmin located on the left) to see if there is an entry. That’s the general idea, without seeing the installation instruction it’s a bit difficult to be more specific. All the best Ric
  5. I have read your post several times; you seem to have a working system. All your web files are in folder www and the index page is accessible via a browser http://localhost/index.php/ ) this indicates UniServer is working correctly. The error message is telling you that there is no database installed, is this database provided by your web host or did you install it as a package? The question I am really asking, what package are you running on your webhost, knowing that we can point you in the right direction. All the best Ric

    mod_ssl

I like Stunnel then again I like alternatives. You may find this write-up on mod_ssl of interest. http://center.uniformserver.com/u35_mod_ss...sl_1_intro.html It is intended to provide an opportunity for anyone wishing to have a play with mod_ssl, keys and certificates. I would be interested if anyone finds it of use. All the best Ric

    Wiki is down!

I am not sure if you are aware that the Wiki is down! This is a valuable resource; I like it and use it. Like HELP there is some info I would like to check out, but no access. I keep getting this: Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in.... I am after an entry by Mr X, not seen him on the forum lately, suppose he’s been fully assimilated by Unix All the best Ric
  8. I have updated Stunnel documentation for 3.5-Apollo enjoy. http://center.uniformserver.com/us35_stunn...el_1_intro.html Ric

    What OS?

Hi Olajide I do understand the concept of the chevrons. UniServer did fail on the 95 box; just could not resist the temptation to try it because the box was fired up for another problem. Which is probably more serious because this was due to archiving information. To cut a long story short, one hard drive archived info, the only program that could access this info, yep on the 95 box. That info is now safely stored on a CD and the user can now access it from an XP machine. I tried to explain file formats and why its not a good idea to store archive material electronically but it fell on stony ground. As for UniServer (3.5) not running on 95 I was not surprised, what surprised me was how far down the chain it actually worked. OK had to download a few extra drivers for the OS but it was these that eventually made me give up. What made my day was your comment “Men.. i dont even know anyone using Windows 98 or 2000 much less 95” Well that was the reason for trying UniServer on such an antiquated box what concerns me more is the amount of supposedly readably archive material out their which is fading into obscurity. Hey, I liked this: And stop bashing your head... i think i did all that already so yall wont have to do it! I have not come across either a hardware or software engineer that does not possess their own wall. All the best Ric

    Unable to stop Apache

Never ever install software on your machine and you will not get this problem. However if you are of a similar disposition (like myself) and just cannot rest the temptation to explore other and new avenues always have a fall back position just in case it all goes “*its” up! Ric

    What OS?

No not a pinned topic, when a user has a problem state what is being used e.g. OS=XP Pro, US=3.3 I have been known to provide a solution based on XP when the poor chap was using 95! I kid you not. Seems he could not find the! Well you get my point. Always willing to help, fired up me old 95, box, and gave 3.5 a bash on it. Interesting damage, the main one being blood dripping down walls, as for the hair loss it’s not your fault. Conclusion 3.5-Apollo is not compatible with Windows 95; by the way the cleaning bill has been posted by snail mails and is on its way. Seems blood is extremely difficult to remove and costly. Bashing ones head against a wall is not recommended. I do have a serious point how fare has US moved on and what is the minimum platform it can run on. Remember XP has been around for an eternity (5-6 years) All the best Ric
  13. There is not yet an official UniTray plugin for Apollo - It is being worked on. You can try his unofficial UniTray plugin it is a cut down version http://center.uniformserver.com/us_35_unit..._install_1.html If you installed Unserver as a service it is not suitable for that. The cut down version is for a standard Uniserver installation only. All the best Ric

    What OS?

I am finding it difficult to answer problems. I have Windows XP home have no problem running tests to answer questions on that OS. However I do not see users stating their OS. This would give us a sporting chance to point them in the right direction. All the best Ric
  15. If you have installed as a service, go to folder C:\UniServerX.X and double click on the file Uninstall.bat this will kill the service. Follow Olajide’s advice and there should be no problems. All the best Ric. PS I cannot confirm that because I do not and have access to Vista: Hence back to Olajide.
  16. Full Perl I have been following this one because I stated the core elements of Perl are stable and doing a full overlay of the library should not cause a problem with UniServer. OK I do admit a little tongue in cheek I have never tried it. I could not resist the temptation and give it a bash, just to see where the problems are. In my previous post I mentioned the library was big hence provide a few figures Test machine running Windows XP home Library taken from ActivePerl-5.8.8.820-MSWin32-x86-274739 1) Installed a clean version of Uniform Server 3.5-Apollo this was directly to a USB stick, time taken about 8 minuets. (Size about 43M) 2) Tested the installation, no problems well apart from the security stuff from the firewall. Running fine on apanel and Localhost. 3) Directly overlaid the full Perl library to USB stick, allowed overwrite to both read only files and current files. Size about 46M time around 12 minutes. 4) Tests ran through admin panel info pages and Localhost no problems. 5) Restarted PC again no problem, ran the memory stick on another PC (OK running XP home) no problem. I was hoping to reproduce the problem but now I am stumped. The only conclusion I can draw although a long shot have you tried a different memory stick? All the best Ric PS I suppose looking on the bright side I now have UniServer with a full version of Perl on me memory stick thanks for that.
  17. Yep that’s the correct thing to do if you use Perl for any meaty development. ActivePerl is certainly the one to use its what Uniform Server uses. The real problem is explained on this page zap down to the problems section http://center.uniformserver.com/new_users_...ers_perl_1.html From what I have seen Uniform Server uses only the core functions in its scripts these are very stable hence you will have no problem with your solution. The only problem is with third party modules that do not get updated as explained in the problem section. If anyone is interested the full ActivePerl lib is large hence the cut down version in Uniform Server. I personally would recommend that you copy across only the modules you need. All the best Ric
  18. I apologise for the delay thought I would run a few tests. Hence over the weekend I set up a similar system (DynDNS account with DynDNS updater) and left it running. This was on a test machine behind a wireless router the PC remained running however the router gets switched off when not in use (service provider will allocate a new IP address hence force a DynDNS update). Checking my logs I found the server never crashed. During the domain IP address update propagation period the server was still accessible locally. What I found interesting depending on the time of day it can take between one to five minutes for the initial DNS to propagate. Five minutes is a long time when you keep refreshing a page wanting an instant update. A full DNS update can take much longer to propagate. The bottom line I think you need to wait for a reasonable amount of time for your IP address to be updated and propagated do not expect instant results. As for your log file: Error in my_thread_global_end(): 1 threads didn't exit There was a problem with PHP5 and MySQL in the past. Thought this was resolved with the new versions. Do you have another libmysql.dll other than the one used in UniServer 3.5-Apollo if so delete it? This is the place to obtain updated libmysql.dll http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/php/ not sure if this is your problem. System error 1060 has occurred.\r, referer:....... This error occurs because you are trying to restart the servers as a service from apanel, however since you have not installed the servers to run as a service, you get the error 1060. "The specified service does not exist as an installed service" the cause as above. From this point three instances of Apache are started and seem to run with no problems. However only one Apache should be running; I have no explanation for this, not sure of the mechanism. The post is not that helpful however I hope the info is of some use. Ric
  19. Shame on me! I seem to have missed this post, thanks metaltailz I have corrected UniCenter accordingly. http://center.uniformserver.com/us_35/us35...ver_config.html Honest I do read the posts even if I am a bit late All the best Ric
  20. Check the Apache logs in folder *\Uniform Server\udrive\usr\local\apache2\logs to see if they shed any light on the problem. Apache just sits there processing incoming data; if it gets upset will certainly log its displeasure. After an interruption I have seen similar occurrences with XP home, it goes off and sulks for a very long time before it re-synchronises and returns to normal operation. Sometimes it sacrifices a few innocent bystanders, forcing you to do a restart masking the real problem. You have not mentioned what firewall you use, these can unintentionally give you grief. What I am trying to say there is not enough information to point you in the right direction. All the best Ric
  21. Thanks for the clear and concise feedback; knowing the final outcome helps others with similar problems. I added the follow-up log information just in case someone needs to use separate log files. Seemed a good idea to keep it all in one place. Again thanks for the feedback. Ric

    What's Free!

Just found this excellent site http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/express/default.mspx Providing a free SQL server thought I would pop it on my memory stick and gives it a whirl. The download size is interesting 36M to 475M depending on choice, no idea what it expands I also need a few extras to run it! UniServer download 7M expands to 36M including database and server runs from a memory stick no problem. So what do I get for my money? Free does not translate to open source, I could not find any information how to run it from a USB memory stick. I am slowly taking the Linux route this freebie along with Vista is pushing me that way. Once snared into the big brother trap, you may find there is no way to go; hence I am taking the opportunity of learning and exploring alternative routes. My real point if you are green in any way that old box will work perfectly with Linux and for some time to come. However it’s never going to run Vista or even XP and that freebie will not run either on your old kit. Again I pose the question what do I get for my money.
  23. That’s normal one is a calling function while the other is the real thing hence not a problem.
  24. In my last post I mentioned you should comment out the log statements. I had a very good reason for this, while writing the post I suddenly remembered one of these lines will prevent the servers starting, just could not remember which one. The CustomLog Directive takes three parameters file name, format (what to log) and environment the first two are required, third is optional. Hence this line: CustomLog logs/lnl_custom_log because the second parameter is missing will prevent the servers starting. The second parameter specifies what will be written to the log file UniServer has the following defined: LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b \"%{Referer}i\" \"%{User-Agent}i\"" combined LogFormat "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b" common LogFormat "%{Referer}i -> %U" referer LogFormat "%{User-agent}i" agent Each format string ends with a name (combined, common, referer and agent) these are short cuts containing the corresponding format string. You use this name as the second parameter for the custom log. The above would look like this: ErrorLog logs/lnl_error.log CustomLog logs/lnl_custom.log combined Alternatively you can us a format string directly: ErrorLog logs/lnl_error.log CustomLog logs/lnl_custom.log "%h %l %u %t \"%r\" %>s %b" You can tailor each of your custom logs to log only the information you are interested in. I am slightly confused because it seems removing the back slash was the only problem and rmrwebmaster server works without the second parameter for the custom log! Well I am posting this because my tests show that it is required on my set-up and because it is not an optional parameter. All the best Ric
  25. You should not have a back slash on the path This: DocumentRoot /www/default/ Should look like this: DocumentRoot /www/default This page explains the set-up in detail: http://center.uniformserver.com/us_35/us35...rtual_host.html As Olajide states you must restart the server after setting all vhosts for them tobe become effective. I think the killer is the log file statements comment these out, US is set-up for a centeral log file. Ric
