Thanks for the feedback I have an explanation for that disappearing folder: I performed a quick test Created a test folder containing UniServer_FileZillaFTPd_1.0.zip 1) Selected UniServer_FileZillaFTPd_1.0.zip and clicked the Extract button (--) This produces folder: UniServer_FileZillaFTPd_1.0 2) However if you select UniServer_FileZillaFTPd_1.0.zip and File>Open Then select all the files and extract you get the structure as per your post I like 7z and tend to use the lazy method 1) of extracting files. All the best Ric

I was a little concerned that the above folder does not exist! Hence downloaded the zip file and extracted its content, could not find any problems. The Wiki I have updated only because the last line of this section had a link for folder UniServer this should have been in bold as shown Options 2: * Download file UniServer_FileZillaFTPd_1.0.zip from Sourceforge * Save to any folder * Extract files, navigate to folder UniServer_FileZillaFTPd_1.0. * Copy its entire contents to the installed Uniform Server folder UniServer If you are still having a problem download the file again, I can’t explain why in your particular case the folder does not exist. An excellent idea and is possible. That said, I strongly believe in alternatives, these chaps and ladies will have put a great deal of effort and time into their project and offer you a choice. In that respect UniServer is no different. The choice is yours. All the best Ric

The quick answer is to upgrade to 4.*-Mona However if you still wish to use 3.5 no problem: Edit: UniServer\usr\local\php\php.ini Located this line: ;extension=php_openssl.dll Remove the semi-colon to give : extension=php_openssl.dll Now the painful part, download the full version of PHP 5.2.3 From: http://www.php.net/releases/ (windows binary) Locate php-5.2.3-Win32\ext\php_openssl.dll And copy to folder: Uniform Server\udrive\usr\local\php\extensions That should work All the best Ric

This release of Mona is a security update (PHP) also taken the opportunity to upgrade some of the main components new specification as follows: Specification changes: - MySQL updated to 5.1.35; - PHP security update 5.2.10; - phpMyAdmin updated to 3.2.0; - eAccelerator updated to 0953_5.2.10 Download: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...ackage_id=48193 Reagrds, The Uniform Server Development Team

The no space restriction only applies when Uniform server is installed in sub-folders and running as a service. If you are not running the servers as a service spaces are not an issue. Your installation will look similar to this: C:\folder spaces\folder more spaces\UniServer\udrive\ With that configuration you must use the files (Server_Start.bat, disk_start.vbs etc.) in folder UniServer to start and stop the servers. A virtual drive is created and the servers are run from this at the top-level hence spaces are not an issue. The reason your servers fail to start is because you are using usb_server_start.bat contained in folder udrive. This was specifically designed to run the servers when installed as disk root. That is to say the entire contents of folder udrive are copied directly to drive c:\ for example or some other disk’s root. All the best Ric

Oops! The above should have been posted in another thread. Hey! No problem, 4.2-Mona is an excellent piece of kit. I noticed that more downloads favour the zip as opposed to the exe file. It’s a shame! The zip may be larger but you get no more bangs for your buck, they are identical! Well older versions of Vista had problems with zip files hence the more covenant 7Z.EXE. It’s a self-extracting archive, that’s all, adds nothing to your PC other than extracting to a folder of your choice. All the best Ric

Note: Upgrade to 4.2-Mona You only need to edit a single line in the following file: UniServer\udrive\usr\local\mysql\my.cnf (or just “my” if the “.cnf” is hidden!) Locate this section: # Note: The innodb block is enabled/disabled using a single line # Uncomment the next line to disable innodb tables. Comment line to enable innodb tables skip-innodb Change to: Locate this section: # Note: The innodb block is enabled/disabled using a single line # Uncomment the next line to disable innodb tables. Comment line to enable innodb tables #skip-innodb Restart the servers. All the best Ric

Have you checked the log files to see if they provide a clue? UniServer\usr\local\apache2\logs\access.log UniServer\usr\local\apache2\logs\error.log (I assume 4.*-Mona) All the best Ric

Well! Nominations are about over (29-5-09), trust everyone exercised their digits and nominated Uniform Server! If we succeeded in the nominations will post where to vote. All the best Ric

Yep! Last call for nominations. You may even get a chance to vote; hence get them nominations in. All the best Ric and Uniform Server Development Team

Just to remind anyone your nominations count and time is running out. All the best Ric

I have checked the latest nominations and see no mention of Uniform Server. Shame that! Can only assume everyone has lost their ability to perform a few mouse clicks. Seriously every nomination counts; otherwise Uniform Server will not be considered as a candidate and you will not have an opportunity to vote for an ace project. All the best Ric

This release of Mona is an upgrade to the core components either because of stability or security issues. Specification changes: - MySQL updated to 5.1.34; - PHP security update 5.2.9-2; - eAccelerator updated to 0953_5.2.9.2 - few minor corrections; Unless there are serious bugs, significant changes to the core components (bugs) or security updates this is the last in the Mona series. Any further releases will be maintenance only. Wiki support material has been updated to reflect this new release. A new Wiki page, Self-contained USB MediaWiki can be used as a template for other self-contained applications. It demonstrates a powerful feature, ability to easily move the server to different ports allowing several servers to be run concurrently. No! It’s not a Perl vs PHP issue; both are very capable. Its one of stability, size and in addition a positive move forward regarding architecture design. All the best Ric

Just wondering if any one has used PHP 5.3.0RC2 on Uniform Server. If so what problems if any have you encountered? I have integrated it into a test version of Mona 4.2, noticed it breaks a small portion of Apanel! Not a major issue. It subjectively feels more responsive, difficult to explain that statement. I cannot run eAcellorator since there are no current binaries for it. That said without this it looks faster I assume eAccelerator will only enhance speed. At long last it looks like libmysql.dll will not be included! You need to use the one supplied by MySQL. The version I am testing is MySQL 5.1.34; ace no issues. I have been testing PHP 5.3.0RC2 CLI, it almost has the power of Perl! Would anyone have any objections if Perl were removed from Uniform Server? The only problem I have, between releases of Perl I have only had to change one script. That has never been true for PHP CLI. I am not knocking PHP 5.3 because I think it has reached a stability plateau, that’s why it looks like a viable and serious alternative. Well if you would like to mill me legs off! Feel free to do so, however any positive feedback would be appreciated. All the best Ric

For a private server you can become your own CA by using the CA plugin. Users are verified against this, it removes the self-signed certificate problem. However it does not remove the need for a user to install your CA certificate. Hence back to square one! The important point, for a personal server, data and passwords are encrypted over the Internet. That means it prevents eavesdropping by a casual user. If a user is outside of your trust, they are not going to knowingly install your CA certificate. Hence why a real signed cert should be difficult to obtain. As for cost! Well that’s down to any insurance that, that particular CA offers. A more serious issue is that you are not prevented in anyway being your own CA or to use encryption of a certain restrictive defined length. All the best Ric

The Wiki is a good place to start! To generate a new server certificate close the servers and use “Method 3 Manually” Found on this page: http://wiki.uniformserver.com/index.php/4.0-Mona:_Enable_SSL The certificate generated is for a personal secure server, this means your users need to provide an exception in their browser and accept the server certificate as being trusted. Alternatively you can use a free CA such as CAcert: http://wiki.uniformserver.com/index.php/SS...rt_Introduction They are working hard to get their root certificate into Fixfox however it’s a shame they are not there yet, hence your users will again need provide an exception in their browser. If you want your users to see a green light! You need to purchase a signed certificate from one of those expensive suppliers. The following may be worth a read: http://wiki.uniformserver.com/index.php/Un...A:_Introduction All the best Ric

In the light of sparse information I think the first port of call is to navigate to folder: UniServer\udrive\usr\local\apache2\logs Open the following two files: error_ssl.log and error.log To see if they provide a clue! All the best Ric

Hi Pont This looks like incompatible binaries, revert your set-up so you get PDO working but have the phpMyAdmin crashing. To prvent phpMyAdmin crashing edit file UniServer\udrive\home\admin\www\phpMyAdmin\config.inc.php Locate this line (66): $cfg['Servers'][$i]['extension'] = 'mysqli'; // The php MySQL extension to use ('mysql' or 'mysqli') Change to: $cfg['Servers'][$i]['extension'] = 'mysql'; // The php MySQL extension to use ('mysql' or 'mysqli') All the best Ric

Ric replied to ricktza's topic in Uniform Server - Windows
I covered this some time ago hence take a look at this post: http://forum.uniformserver.com/index.php?s...amp;hl=database If you are not running a production server no problems! There are some security issues and bug fixes (main components) that 4.2 will address. Due for release next week! All the best Ric -
Hi Denis, Thanks for the feedback; to a certain extent it vindicates UniController. I’m not sure if I can code around this issue because UniController checks the socket directly. My real concern I was going to replace batch file checking with a PHP script, which also checks the ports at the socket level. All the best Ric
