  1. Make sure that: You have clicked on the "run mysQL server" link in the admin panel You have created the database The username and password are correct.
  2. You can do apache as a service rather than an application. That's what the services plugin is for
  3. when you start uniformserver, you should get a popup from windows firewall telling you that apache is requesting permission to access the internet. Make sure that you select "unblock". You could also try going into the firewall config panel and setting port 80 as an exception.
  4. I find that sometimes the admin page tries to load before the server is fully started, resulting in a "access denied" page. Try clicking the "go" button again after waiting a few seconds.
  5. But you cannot run two webservers on the same computer...and very few webhosts give people the permissions necessary to run exe files on their servers.
  6. Just use the services at afraid.org. I believe that they have a way to get dynamic dns directly for a domain.
  7. we could make a installation package including hmailserver, as well as modified uniformserver files with the necessary changes made to work with it and an installation guide.
  8. You cannot open php files by double-clicking them or by navigating to them through w:/www or uniformserverfolder/www. You must type in localhost/fileinwww.php. Otherwise, the server does not know that you want it to parse the php file. Try going to http://localhost/testingphp.php and tell me what that gives you.
  9. I use it for testing, as well as keeping a working back up of my site. I hope someday to run a production server off it too.

  11. I'm not sure exactly what the others are for, but usr I believe is for programs, such as the perl interpreter. WWW is like public_html; put content to be served in there or in subdirectories under it. Regarding the folders under uniserver3_2a: Doc I believe is for documentation. Diskw is that the disk "w:\" that the start.bat creates redirects to. putting files in it is the same as putting them under w:\. Doing it that way allows you to have an installation-free server. You shouldn't have to copy anything to diskw. Just put them in w:\www. I hope this answers your questions.
  12. Check your hosts file and ensure that there are no entries for google or yahoo. Also download and run an anti-spyware program such as Ad-Aware. If you want to remove Uniformserver, click the "stop server"link in admin panel, then delete the uniform server folder.
  13. If you can get to the admin panel, try clicking on "run mysql server". You can access phpmyadmin either through the admin panel or by typing it's path into the browser address bar. Simply double-clicking on a php file will not start it.
  14. try putting this in the .htaccess file REDIRECT from to where "from" is the server path (I think relative to the .htaccess file) of the file or directory (with a slash at the end) that you are redirecting from and "to" is the full url of the page to redirect to.
  15. Do you by any chance know of a site that still offers version 2 unlimited trial for download? Apparently for the first couple hours, version 2 had an free unlimited trial, then they changed it to the limited trial.

  19. That would look great in the trouble shooting:
  20. http://www.whatismyip.com also works, and it's in english
  21. Whenever possible, I like to use pictures that either I or someone I know has taken for wallpaper. Seems more personal, and when someone asks "what's that picture", you can actually tell them
  22. and did you click "start mysql server" in the admin panel?
  23. Well, for one thing, it's free and opensource. It is completely compatible with all MS office filetypes. It actually includes features not found in office, such as the ability to export directly to a pdf (as opposed to using a pdf printer), and to export a presentation to a flash file. And their powerpoint-type program has much cooler transition effects not found in powerpoint. yeah, me neither...I need to clean it up. You notice the "unused icons" folder; I've done it once but installed more programs since then. btw Kevin, I didn't think Longhorn had been released Where did you get it?
  24. It's the desktop on my dell laptop. I don't have a desktop computer. I'm assuming that here we're referring to the virtual desktop, not the type of computer.
  25. Here's mine. I took the picture myself.
