In this post, I’ll highlight the upcoming updates to the DP-700 exam, which is required to earn the Fabric Data Engineer Associate certification.

Starting April 21st, the DP-700 exam will see four minor updates to its skill areas. I'm sharing these details to help keep current and future candidates informed, especially those already preparing for the exam.

You can find all the skills measured for the exam in the DP-700 Study Guide.

Changes to the DP-700 exam

Recent updates to the DP-700 exam focus on the skills measured in two key areas: security/governance and data ingestion/transformation.

Security & Governance: Candidates now need to understand folder-level access controls, in addition to previously required access control levels (row, column, object, file). Also added is the ability to implement and monitor workspaces. Dinesh Priyanka’s video offers a helpful demonstration on enabling workspace monitoring and visualizing data with community dashboards.

Batch Data Ingestion & Transformation: The skill set now includes knowing when to use KQL, alongside dataflows, notebooks, and T-SQL. The Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer course is a helpful resource for building this understanding, though deeper exploration is recommended.

Streaming Data Ingestion & Transformation: Candidates must now understand how to choose between native storage, followed storage, and shortcuts in Real-Time Intelligence.

These updates are effective from April 21st, so it’s important for those preparing for the exam to align their studies with the latest skill requirements.
