Just installed Uniform Server and everything seems fine but when I try to access anything using http://localhost/ in my browser I get "Oops! This link appears to be broken."

Looking around the net some people suggest editing the hosts file which I have done but still no joy.

I'm sure its something simple but I ain't got a clue

Quick update, I have tried editing the hosts file to just show the line:

127.0.0.1 localhost

However this didn't resolve the issue.

Any help would be fantastic

If host file contains that line and servers are running it could be a DNS resolver issue

Try the following:

Open a command window. Click Start and select Run. Type cmd and click OK.

In command window type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter key.

Should see a message “Successfully flushed the DNS”

Start your browser, does that resolve the issue?

All the best

Thanks for the advice Ric. Minor improvement in that I now get a blank page for http://localhost/

But anything else still goes to page not found e.g. http://localhost/apanel/

Just been reading around and check to see what was already using port 80, but couldn't work out what it was as I had uninstalled skype.

Followed the instructions here on how to change listening to 8080 which appeared to work http://wiki.uniformserver.com/index.php/Ne..._Listening_Port

Hopefully that's the end of the issue

Glad you have the server up and running.

Interestingly by moving your server to a different port you have preserved your original problem. :)

This makes it an ideal candidate for running 6.0.0-Carbo beta.

If you are willing download the beta and run server using Start_UniTray_2.exe

Initialisation checks for ports in use. If a port in use is detected the offending application is named in a pop-up.

I will be interested in your findings

All the best

Ric
