Yep! I have one idea, what virus checker do you use?

Seriously it could be a whole host of things. Total number of programs that are running, either visible or services hidden in the background.

They all impede on available resources such as memory and the need to pop stuff on and off disk.

There are a number of virus scanners that are resource hungry including some software firewalls.

Lets put it another way, after a disk crash I never restored Norton or MS firewall an interesting increase in speed was observed.

All the best

PS I am not knocking either but I believe they have both lost their way in terms of efficient and minimal software (Just never understood the bloat and the need to eat resources). :D

Thanks for your reply Ric...

sorry I took so long to reply, I don't no what's going on really, what I' done so far is turned of the anti virus (comodo , had avast but it interfered with my mail server) and windows firewall , it did make a small improvement but not so that out side world would notice, I should be picking up more ram on Tuesday so hopefully that may make a difference.

I've been searching though the net to find anything on speeding up localhost, hardly anything but I did see something about enable query cache in mysql, so I'm going to look into how I go about doing that.

On a completely different note I looked though my access log (usr\local\apache2\logs) this morning and saw something strange and I was wondering if you could tell if my site is being attacked by someone or something, here are some short section of the log:

This very well may be nothing to worry about but I am lacking in knowledge to understand these processes, I run my site from localhost so why would something or someone try to get into my data base

any thanks for the help you have already given me and any in the future

Thanks again
