need help using uniform server

Featured Replies

I just tried to install Uniform Server and can not get it to work. When I type in http://localhost/a/ for the URL I get "Unable to Connect".

There is a local drive W, but it has question mark over the icon when looking at it in Windows Explorer.

When I tried to run Server_Start.bat, I get "The disk W is busy. Use the start.bat [disk letter]"

I do not have a start.bat in the Uniform Server folder.

Can someone help me out? Give me a suggestion as what to do next?

Thank you,

bookpage

One interesting thing I noticed in your post was this link: http://localhost/a/ B)

That’s related to an older version of US that I am not familiar with! :(

Have you downloaded the new version of US (3.5-Apollo), see you are using XP hence you should have no problem.

:)

Have you checked this page:

http://center.uniformserver.com/us_35/us35_intro_1.html

Worth looking at; Oops just checked that link it is backwards compatible.

As a reference point download the new version and give that a bash.

If your download was version 3.5-Apollo then come back and give me a bash. :)

All the best

Ric :)

Yes, I have version 3.5-Apollo and no, I have not look at the page link you gave. Will read it. I rebooted and now it seems to be working okay.

But, how I have a new problem. When trying to change password for MySQL, I get this:

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at W:\home\admin\www\mqsetup.php:1) in W:\home\admin\www\mqsetup.php on line 5

» MySQL Server Configuration

I got the 'http://localhost/a/' from http://www.devx.com/webdev/Article/22169

"From a command prompt, run start.bat and you will then be able to access the Web server's administration screen at http://localhost/a/ (see Figure 1)."

Thank you for all your help,

Thanks for the feedback. I checked out the link you provided and found the article was written for US version 3.1 there have been major changes between the versions, 3.5-Apollo make the whole set-up easier.

If you followed the instructions for changing MySQL password from that article you probably have killed the database. No major problem, I would recommend deleting what you have, extract a fresh copy of 3.5 and follow these instructions to change the password:

Enjoy

All the best
