Dowloaded UniServer3_5 - now what?

Featured Replies

Greetings,

First post here.

I dowloaded UniServer3_5, and started the server but I don't know what to do from here.

I dowloaded it because I wanted to be able to see PHP includes locally instead of having to upload files to see them.

Have I dowoaded the appropriate software?

Where do I go from here?

Thanks,

-Mike

Copy the files to the /www folder and start the server using Server_Start.bat or unicontroller.exe and you are set :)

Hello, I just downloaded the uniform server too. I am totally lost. I want to learn. Please understand my ignorance when I ask...which files do I copy to the www folder?

Thanks, Tim

Hi Tim,

The folder www is where you place all your web site files (and folders). Name your main page either index.html or index.php when you type http://localhost/ into your browser this page will be served first.

This page provides an image of the server folder structure:

http://center.uniformserver.com/us_35/us35_install_2.html

This page is a good starting point for php

All the best

Hi Ric,

Thanks for the information. :)

Hi Tim

I avoided pointing you to the HTML page because it was lacking :) hence!

I have updated the HTML section, which may now be worth a visit:

http://center.uniformserver.com/new_users_...ers_html_1.html

I have published a new section; PHP CLI tried to make it a one-to-one with the corresponding Perl section

http://center.uniformserver.com/new_users_...sers_php_2.html

The guides are only intended to get you up and running with Uniform Server and to show how flexible it is.

Enjoy

Ric :)

Thanks again Ric! I was able to make a sample page in the HTML format. I even downloaded a HTML page that I had created on a hosted site. I copied it and pasted it into Notepad, then named it page1.html and saved it to www. Then I refreshed Internet Explorer and WALLLAA! There it was!!

I am now on the PHP part. There I am having some trouble with the command prompt. I typed cd twice but it keeps saying C:\Documents and Settings\then my full name here> Is there something that I haven't set right maybe? I created the a_php file in C drive. and copied the two files to it the php5ts.dll and php.exe files

Thanks, Tim

To move up the folder tree use cd followed by two full stops and press return (enter key) e.g. cd..

Both Perl and PHP CLI are for system maintenance and not for serving web pages. Along with batch files they offer you the ability to automate repetitive system tasks.

To be honest I had intended for you to look at this page:

http://center.uniformserver.com/new_users_...sers_php_1.html

It’s a basic introduction to PHP web pages and how to run them on Uniform server.

Getting your first HTML page to run is a great feeling and an excellent starting point to explore and experiment with other code. :)

All the best

Ric :)
