3.1 starts well - but not 3.2 nor 3.2a

Featured Replies

Hi!

After running and enjoying Uniform Server 3.1 for a long time on a daily base to host a private weblog (thank you by the way for this excellent server!) I just thought I really should upgrade to 3.2a. But now neither 3.2 nor 3.2a start. After running start.bat the W:// drive seems to be created for one second (appears in the windows explorer) and apache.exe and uniserv.exe are visible in the taskmanager. But after only one second the processes and the W:// drive disappear again and my browser can not display the webpage called by start.bat after that of course.

What changed from 3.1 to 3.2 so that the Uniform Server doesn't want to start?

I have Win2k with latest patches and service packs installed. There shouldn't be any remains of other servers (dll's etc.) on my system which might interfere with Uniform Server. I also tested to start Uniform Server with disabled and even killed desktop firewall (Kerio personal firewall) and antivirus program. Any advices? :D

Did you install anything during the time period.. or did you start any program like Skype that may be using port 80?

Also, how did you upgrade it from 3.2 to 3.2a? All you have to do is copy over the W:/www and the W:/usr/local/mysql/data folder to the new installations....

Thank you for answering!

What do you mean with "time period"? Do you mean whether I installed other programs after running 3.1 which may now interfere with 3.2? I installed many programs but none which I think of of possibly interfering with Uniform Server 3.2. I deinstalled Skype but Skype didn't run in the background anyway. And i closed all other programs, even my firewall and antivirus program.

And if there miight be indeed a program occupying port 80 - why does 3.1 function but not 3.2 or 3.2a?

Is there any special installation procedure with 3.2? I thought it's as simple as 3.1: No installation at all = unzipping and that's it.

I didn't mix any files of 3.1 or 3.2 of course and I don't run 3.1 and 3.2 at the same time. And I don't need MySQL - but it worked nevertheless with version 3.1.

The W:// drive exists with 3.1. only after starting the start.bat file of the 3.1 version. As described in my first post: With 3.2 and 3.2a the W:// only exists one second after running the start.bat.

Which other information can I provide to help solving this puzzle??

I had the same problem and here it's the solution: :D

enter on UniServer3_2a\diskw\usr\local\Apache2 and here create a new folder with name "logs"

Now you can run UniServer simply by clicking on start.bat :(

I found the problem...

I use TugZip (very good freeware archiver with 7z and cab support build in). When I decompress content with TugZip, it doesn't create empty folder :D

I suggest for future version to put inside logs folder a text file like folder.txt (with some content inside like "log folder for apache"), cause maybe others archiver doesn't decompress empty folder :(

We do not put anything there so we can save space and have the size smaller... :D

Sorry but that way is much more better... :) You do not need any uncompresser for the .exe, just click it and it will unpack itself. :D :(

I still want to know if that is Lucomo's problem or not.. :D

Sorry for not answering! I had much work to do last week...

It was indeed the problem with the missing /log folder in the apache directory! Really odd. :P

Now 3.2a runs without any problems! Thanks a lot for the help and suggestions!
