Uniform Server works fine with Admin and standard user accounts, but not when the user is a restricted user.

Strangely the Subst drive (W:) works as the software starts and opens the redirect page.

Then, for some reason I cannot figure out, the W: drive unmounts itself.

This only happens when the user is a restricted user, never as Admin or Std users!

Any ideas?

I need to be able to deploy this for use by restricted users!

Is same whether I use the Start.bat file or the UniController

OS is W2k

Will check to see if XP is the same.

Its going to be the same thing. A restricted account does not have access to use SUBST, thats the problem. I dont even think you have access to run a server. Did you try using unicontroller.exe? Try that and tell me if it works.

Yes, also tried using the unicontroller.

It will only mount the subst w: drive from the (restricted) user's desktop, or from within their 'Documents and Settings' directory (and sub-directories) but not from anywhere else.

I'll also be trying to install the Uniform Server as a service to see if this can be by-passed then.

I'll update you with the outcome.

Stupid idea on my part as the service is installed with no subst dependencies!

That's okay though, I'll use it in this configuration, which suits me very well.

Thanks

You cannot install service under restricted account

And yes, you can only run them from there ebcause that is the only place you can save files. You do not have permission under restricted to save in the main C:/ drive on most systems.
