Hello,

I recently have this problem, when the server is on, at first people can access it but after a while they can't, only I can access it. What could be the problem. One of my thought was, when I touch the content of my server then this happen but now its happenning without me doing anything.

I'm currently running my server on an intranet network in my college with the address of the web site as http://**** (**** = computer name).

If anyone know what is the cause of this problem, please tell me. Its getting anoying now.

You are probably behind a router, if you at college, and you have to set the router to forward the port. I suggest changing the access port to 81 in the W:/usr/local/apache2/conf/httpd.conf

Instead of having it read

Listen 80

make it read

List 81

.

If you have port forwarded it, then restart the server, and test it out. If there is still a problem, then explain it in a little more detail.

If you switch to another port, it doesn't have to be 81, the new access address would be http://xxxx:(Port)/xxxx/

I think changing the port number will solve the problem but then I'm gonna have to change so many links in my web site.

Right now I've reinstalled uniserver and so far its working fine but I still have doubts though. I'm being really careful.

p/s: I don't think I'm behind a router because the cable is connected directly to the socket on the wall.

At my school they are connected directly to the wall too, but in the roof they have the routers. :D :(

Every router is different (e.g. LinkSys router configuration is much different than D-Link, etc); you'd need to have admin access to the router configuration pages and the manual for the router. [and if the router belongs to the school, I doubt they are going to give you access to its configuration; I don't allow anyone other than myself to change my router configuration]

Chances are, that your connection is through a router located somewhere in a restricted area of the school, or something...and I highly doubt that you will be permitted to change it, nor do I believe they will do it for you.

I don't think I will be able to change the router setting. Right now I'm using another server software to run my server and there is no problem at all. I will try uniserver again though, it's still better then the one I'm using now.

You are probably behind a router and school and yes, you do not have access to it. The same thing will probably happen behind the new server software, and another thing is that your school might not authorize it.

There might also be a firewall on the PC you are using so you might want to check that. Possibility is that the firewall was Off for like 5 minutes after the server started cause of config and then after that, it turned On.

Could it be possible its like this because there's another computer on the network with the same computer name? I've realized that when this problem started to occur, windows pop up a message saying that the name already exist on the network. I'm not really sure if there is a computer with the same name or not (couldn't find it). Will changing the port from 80 to 81 help solve this problem? I don't think its the firewall and my college does allow web hosting (all my friend's server is working fine). Thanks.

well if you have a modem in you dorm there then you dont go thru a router unless u have one in ur dorm too. but if its just a cat5 cable that comes in not coaxle then you most likly are going tru a schools router in which case nobody from outside the schools LAN will be able to get to ur server unless u port forward, maybe ask an admin of the school to forward a port? if you have your own modem you dont have to worry bout a thing and if you have a local router tin your dorm you might want to forward the port and its probably still the default password, in which case go here for all the dafault passwords for almost all routers ever made "http://www.phenoelit.de/dpl/dpl.html"

Can be a bit confusing but remember think of the internet as a road and your lost if you try to get somwhere namely your server, and you dont know wut road to take ur done for, but with someone to ask for directions (port forward) you'll find the destination. :( kinda chezzy :D

I managed to solve the problem already. I just needed to change the name of my computer (also changing the server address). Its been 3 days already and the uniform server is working nicely.

Thank you everyone for helping.
